Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said that the tendency of cheating in public examinations has now largely been brought under control in Bangladesh. He said the government is now placing greater emphasis on improving the education quality and is working to address various challenges within the education system.

He made the remarks at an exchange meeting held at the Barisal District Shilpakala Academy at 10:30 am on Thursday. The meeting was organised for the officers-in-charge of examination centres in the Barisal region under the Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education, Barisal, the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board, and the Bangladesh Technical Education Board in preparation for the upcoming Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations.

The minister said, “Cheating is no longer taking place. So the government is now focusing on improving the quality of education. Efforts are being made to identify the facilities and challenges faced by teachers, as well as the factors that are hindering educational standards, and to address those issues.”

He further stated that all stakeholders must play a responsible role in ensuring that the examinations are conducted in a fair and peaceful environment. “Preventing cheating alone isn’t enough. Equal importance must be given to improving educational quality and identifying and resolving the existing problems within the education system,” he added.

Various aspects of organising the HSC and equivalent examinations smoothly were discussed at the meeting. Relevant officials were also provided with necessary instructions regarding examination centre management, maintaining discipline, and ensuring a conducive environment for examinees.
