Armed robbers tied up security guards and looted equipment worth at least BDT 20 million from an under-construction power grid station in Natore’s Baraigram.
The attackers struck between 8 pm and 2 am at the 132kV power grid station being built by Power Grid Bangladesh off the Natore–Bonpara highway in Khord Kachutia area, according to assistant engineer Babul Kumar Das.
Five to six men first approached the gate and tied up two guards, Das said. A group of 20 to 25 then entered, restrained four more security personnel, and made off with 368 batteries, power cables, welding machines, and other components.
Workers at the site discovered the guards tied up on Thursday morning and alerted police. DB from Natore and Baraigram police visited the scene around 1:30 pm.
Baraigram police station officer-in-charge Abdus Salam said an investigation was underway. Power Grid authorities have filed a case over the robbery.
Chinese and local contractors are building the facility.
