In a joint operation early Tuesday (May 27), the Bangladesh Army and intelligence agencies arrested two top-listed gang leaders along with two of their associates. The operation, based on confidential intelligence, began around 5 am and led to the arrest of Subrata Bain alias Fateh Ali (60) and Abu Rasel Masud alias Molla Masud (54) from Kushtia, and their associates Arafat alias Shooter Arafat and Sharif from the Hatirjheel area in Dhaka.
The Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) disclosed the development during a briefing at Dhaka Cantonment this afternoon. ISPR Director Lieutenant Colonel Sami-ud-Dowla Chowdhury described the arrests as a “significant achievement,” reflecting the military’s operational capability, intelligence coordination, and commitment to national security.
“Subrata Bain and Molla Masud are believed to be among the country’s 23 most-wanted criminals and key masterminds behind the ‘Seven Star’ crime syndicate,” Lt. Col. Sami said.
He added that units including the 46 Independent Infantry Brigade, along with other military and intelligence divisions, played vital roles in the operation. No casualties occurred during the highly coordinated raid.
During the operation, authorities recovered five foreign pistols, ten magazines, 53 rounds of ammunition, and a satellite phone.
“These individuals were involved in murder, extortion, and sabotage across the country. After long-term surveillance, we conducted the operation with precision and without any casualties,” Lt. Col. Sami added.
The operation was executed with support from the Army Headquarters’ Military Operations Directorate, the 55 Infantry Division, the 14 Independent Engineer Brigade, the 71 Mechanized Brigade, and the National Security Intelligence (NSI).
Lt. Col. Sami urged the public to assist law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities or terrorism-related information to the nearest army camp or law enforcement agency.
