President Mirza Fakhrul arrives in Thakurgaon on two-day visit

The president arrived in Thakurgaon on Sunday for his first visit there since assuming office last month.

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir arrived in his home district of Thakurgaon for a two-day visit, his first since assuming office last month.

He left Dhaka at around 11 am and reached Thakurgaon at around 1 pm.

According to the itinerary signed by his protocol officer Abul Kalam Md Lutfor Rahman, the president was scheduled to land at Mohammad Ali Stadium field before proceeding to the district circuit house to receive a guard of honour.

The president was then due to visit the family graveyard in the city’s Senua Para area to pay respects at the graves of his father, former minister Mirza Ruhul Amin, and mother Fatema Begum. He was afterwards expected at his residence in Kalibari.

After lunch and rest, Mirza Fakhrul was scheduled to attend a reception organised by the citizens’ committee at the field of Thakurgaon Government Boys’ High School in the afternoon.

Following the reception, he was to return to his residence to meet dignitaries, relatives and local residents, and spend the night there.

On the second day, the president is due to lay the foundation stone of the proposed Thakurgaon University at Jamalpur area in Sadar upazila along the Thakurgaon-Pirganj road.

He is scheduled to leave Thakurgaon for Dhaka by helicopter later that day.

Security has been tightened across the district for the visit. Members of the Special Security Force, the President Guard Regiment and various intelligence agencies have been deployed, with additional measures in place at potential visit sites, travel routes and key areas.
