Funeral prayers for CoU teacher’s son set for Sunday

First prayer at university campus, second at Gandhamati Eidgah

The body of the 13-year-old was returned to his family on Saturday evening after an autopsy.

The first funeral prayer for Ishayat Shahriar Opratim will be held at 10 am on Sunday on the Comilla University campus, with a second at 11 am at Gandhamati Eidgah ground in Cumilla.

The 13-year-old was the only son of Dr Nahida Begum, an associate professor of Bangla at the university, and businessman K M Firoz Shahriar.

His father said the body was brought back at 8 pm on Saturday after an autopsy.

Opratim went missing on Friday afternoon after leaving his family’s rented flat in Kotbari with his mother’s iPhone, telling her he was going to take photographs with friends. When he did not return, his father filed a general diary with Cumilla Sadar South police station.

Police recovered his body around 1 pm on Saturday from a woodland on the Lalmai hills in Sananda village, Bijoypur union, under Cumilla Sadar South upazila. His head bore injury marks, police said.
