Due to the ongoing adverse weather conditions and flooding across the country, the deadline for final admission to the first-year undergraduate (honours) programs for the 2025-26 academic year at 20 cluster-based general and science and technology universities has been extended. According to the new decision, students will be able to complete their final admission process until July 21.
This decision was reached during an emergency virtual meeting of the cluster admission committee held on Saturday. The meeting was chaired by Professor Dr AKM Motinur Rahman, convener of the Cluster Admission Test Committee and vice-Chancellor of Islamic University.
Many students could not appear at their respective universities to complete the admission process within the stipulated time due to continuous rain, waterlogging and severe weather conditions in various regions of the country, according to meeting sources. The extension was granted particularly to consider the interests of students from southern districts, who faced significant disruptions in travel.
In total, 420 seats currently remain vacant across the 20 universities, according to the cluster admission committee. The University of Barisal and Patuakhali Science and Technology University have the highest number of vacant seats. The committee decided to grant additional time because a significant number of students at these institutions have yet to complete their admission.
Acting Registrar of Islamic University, Professor Dr Manjurul Haque, stated that 36 seats still remain vacant at the university, including 35 general seats and one quota-based seat.
As per the committee’s decision, selected students must be present at their respective universities within the extended timeframe to submit all necessary documents and confirm their final admission according to the prescribed rules. Failure to complete the admission process within the new deadline may result in these seats being considered vacant for subsequent admission cycles.
The cluster admission committee hopes that this extension will allow students who were unable to enrol due to the severe weather to easily complete their admission process. The number of vacant seats across the various universities will significantly decrease.
