Nahid Islam in Netrokona

People of Bangladesh will decide what the future constitution will be

Nahid Islam added, “Even after a year since the mass uprising, people’s rights have not been realized. A sanctuary for extortionists and terrorists has been created in society.”

National Citizen Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam said, “We have taken to the streets for a new constitution. The people of Bangladesh will determine what the future constitution will be. We have taken to the streets for a Constituent Assembly election. The people will determine the constitution through this election. The Awami League has carried out disappearances and murders, taking away the rights of the people. The fascists are still hiding. They are threatening the families of the martyrs and their relatives. Everyone must be vigilant so that they cannot rise up.”

He made these remarks at a public meeting organized by the NCP on Sunday (July 27) on the 27th day of the nationwide July March at the old collectorate ground in Moktarpara, Netrokona municipal town, in the presence of party leaders and activists from 10 upazilas and family members of those injured and killed in the July uprising.

Nahid Islam added, “Even after a year since the mass uprising, people’s rights have not been realized. A sanctuary for extortionists and terrorists has been created in society. For this, we have had to take to the streets again. The youth did not take to the streets with any demands, but rather took to the streets to take responsibility for the country.” He called on the government to implement the July Charter by making fundamental reforms.

Under the slogan “At the People’s Door for Justice, Reform, and a New Constitution,” the public rally also featured speeches from other NCP leaders, including Chief Coordinator Nasir Uddin Patwary, Chief Organizer (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam, Joint Member Secretary Dr. Tasnim Jara, Central Organizer Pritom Shohag, Central Member Fahim Rahman Khan Pathan, and Ruhul Amin. Southern Region Chief Organizer Hasnat Abdullah, Senior Joint Convenor Samanta Sharmin, Joint Convenors Ariful Islam Adib, Ehateshamul Haque, Monira Sharmin, Arpita Shyama Deb, ‘Jatiya Jubo Shakti’ Central Member Secretary Dr. Jahedul Islam, Power Joint Convenor Maruf Al Hamid, Central Organizer Zakaria, Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad convenor Abu Bakar Majumder, and other prominent leaders were also present at the time.

At the rally, Nahid Islam further said, “There are various conspiracies being formed against independence and sovereignty. We want to make it clear that we, who were on the streets during the July Movement, will not allow conspiracy against the independence and sovereignty of the country as long as we have a single drop of blood in our bodies.”

Joint Member Secretary Dr. Tasnim Jara said, “Netrokona is a flood-affected area. Almost every year, people here suffer from flood damage. In the past, the state has failed to fulfill its responsibility to help the flood victims.”
