The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday (September 4) issued the final gazette notification for the boundaries of all 300 parliamentary constituencies for Bangladesh’s upcoming 13th national election, introducing changes in Gazipur and Bagerhat districts.

Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed told reporters in the evening that one new seat has been added in Gazipur, bringing its total to six, while Bagerhat has been reduced to three seats. “The notification determining the boundaries for the 13th parliamentary election has been issued and will be published in the official gazette,” he said.

The commission had earlier formed a specialized committee to redraw the constituencies. A draft map was released on July 30, keeping boundaries unchanged for 261 constituencies while making minor adjustments in 39 seats, including the additions and reductions in Gazipur and Bagerhat.

Citizens were allowed to submit objections and recommendations until August 10. According to the EC, a total of 1,893 submissions were received, including 1,185 objections related to 84 constituencies across 33 districts and 708 recommendations. Hearings on these were held from August 24 to 27.

Following the review, the EC finalized the boundaries based on all opinions and objections, clearing the way for the next national polls to be held under the new constituency map.
