Tarique Rahman vows BNP will restore order, tackle corruption if elected

Tarique Rahman noted that those who committed crimes or unjust acts in the past, during his mother and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia’s government, were not spared.

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has pledged to enforce strict law and order and tackle corruption if his party wins the next election. He made the promises while addressing a large rally in Chattogram today.

Speaking at the city’s historic Polo Ground, Rahman said a future BNP government would show no leniency towards crime or wrongdoing. He said those who committed crimes or unjust acts in the past, during his mother and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia’s government, were not spared.

He highlighted the BNP government did not spare the corrupt even if they were from the party itself, promising to uphold the same principle if BNP is elected to power.

The BNP chairman’s second key commitment was an anti-corruption drive. He alleged corruption had surged during the Awami League’s 1996–2001 tenure, claiming that the country’s ranking on international corruption indices consistently improved after the BNP returned to power.

He promised to act “maximally strict” in rooting out corruption if entrusted with government.

Rahman also made several pledges for Chattogram. He said a BNP government would launch a canal excavation project to ease waterlogging and increase the number of Export Processing Zones to reduce unemployment.

During the rally, he introduced the party’s nominated candidates for Chattogram constituencies from the stage.
