Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad has accepted the president’s resignation letter at the Parliament Secretariat. Concurrently, he has assumed charge as the acting president.

Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal will perform duties as the acting speaker.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad shared this information during a press conference held at the National Parliament at 5:30 pm on Friday. He stated, “The president submitted his resignation letter to me at 5:01 pm. I’ve accepted the resignation letter. I’ve assumed office as the acting president.”

After reading out President Mohammed Shahabuddin’s resignation letter, he said, “As the speaker of the National Parliament, I’ve accepted this resignation letter. On the day I took the oath as speaker, I also took the oath as acting president, if required. Similarly, when our deputy speaker takes the oath, the oath specifies that whenever the speaker’s chair remains vacant for any reason, the deputy speaker will perform the duties of the speaker.”
