The railway security force has detained three suspects over an incident in which stones were allegedly thrown at students from moving trains at the Rajshahi University railway station, the university’s proctor said.

Two of the suspects were detained in the Rajshahi station area and a third in Ishurdi, said Professor Dr Md Mahbubor Rahman, the proctor.

For several days, there have been allegations that stones and bricks were thrown from moving trains at students standing at the station. Several students were injured and several shops near the station were also damaged, according to reports. The university administration, concerned by the incidents, contacted the railway authorities several times to investigate them, Rahman said.

The railway authorities have said they would take the detainees on remand to investigate who was behind the incident, he added.
