Railway authorities cancelled four trains in Chattogram on Wednesday, including the Parjatak Express bound for Cox’s Bazar, after days of heavy rain left sections of track under 14 inches of water, railway officials said.

The Cox’s Bazar Express from Cox’s Bazar to Dhaka was also cancelled as far as Chattogram, though it later operated from Chattogram to Dhaka, transporting passengers along that segment. The Probal Express and Shaikat Express were cancelled under a separate control order.

The Parjatak Express had been stranded since midday after it was halted near the Sholoshohor station on the Cox’s Bazar route when water rose over the track in the Sholoshohor–Jan Ali Hat section. The train was first pulled back to Sholoshohor and later to Chattogram railway station.

A railway source said the combination of track flooding and extended delays caused by operating trains in both directions using connecting rolling stock forced the simultaneous cancellation of all four services. Passengers are being refunded, with online ticket holders reimbursed through their original payment channels and counter purchases refunded offline.

State Minister for Railways Habibur Rashid is due to arrive in Chattogram on Wednesday morning aboard the Turna Express from Dhaka to inspect the flooded track and other affected sites. He is expected to brief journalists on the railway’s condition following the persistent downpours.
