The Department of Narcotics Control recovered 90,000 yaba pills and BDT 3.62 million in cash from a house owned by Sub-Inspector Shahidullah alias Shahid of Cox’s Bazar court police during a raid in the city’s North Hajipara area.

Three people were detained: Ashik Momen Mehedi, 23, his wife Sadia Farhana, 23, and Saimon Sorwar, 16. All three are residents of Hnila Union in Teknaf upazila, according to the DNC.

Acting on a tip-off, a DNC team searched the house on Monday morning and found the yaba pills and cash hidden inside.

DNC Cox’s Bazar Deputy Director Somen Mondal said the three had been detained and a case was being filed against them under the Narcotics Control Act.

Mondal said investigators were examining whether the house owner had direct involvement in or links to the drug trade.

Legal action would be taken against him if evidence of criminal involvement emerged during the investigation, he said.

Sources said the origin and destination of the seized yaba, the individuals connected to it and the source of the cash were all under investigation. Authorities were also looking into who used the police officer’s house and whether it had any connection to local drug networks.
