The amount of money deposited by Bangladeshis in various banks in Switzerland has increased once again. By the end of 2025, the total deposits held by Bangladeshis in Swiss banks stood at around 834.16 million Swiss francs, which is approximately BDT 122.54 billion (calculated at an average exchange rate of BDT 146.9 per Swiss franc in 2025). Swiss National Bank (SNB) revealed the information in the annual banking statistics published yesterday.

Deposits held by Bangladeshis in Swiss banks have experienced significant fluctuations over the past several years, according to SNB’s “Comprehensive Year-End Statistics” report. In 2024, the amount stood at around 589.54 million Swiss francs. In 2023, it had dropped sharply to just 17.71 million Swiss francs. Bangladeshi deposits stood at nearly 55.26 million Swiss francs in 2022. But in 2021, deposits had risen to around 871.11 million Swiss francs, which remains the highest level to date. The amount was about 562.93 million Swiss francs in 2020.

Funds from Bangladesh are deposited in Swiss banks through various channels. Bangladeshis living in different countries also keep money in Swiss banks. If a Bangladeshi deposits funds using another nationality or conceals their identity, such funds are not included in this data, according to the Swiss central bank. Similarly, the monetary value of stored gold or other valuables is also excluded from this calculation.

Despite the report publishing country-wise total deposit figures, it does not provide information on how much money is held in individual accounts or by institutions.

The deposits made by Indian citizens in Swiss banks have decreased slightly in 2025, according to the SNB report. Switzerland has long been regarded as one of the most prominent destinations for storing wealth belonging to the world’s rich. Under Swiss law, banks are generally not obligated to disclose customer information, and they maintain strict confidentiality regarding account and identity details. It is consequently widely assumed that a portion of undeclared income or assets transferred abroad from various countries is held in Swiss banks.

Although the identities of individual account holders are not disclosed, the SNB’s annual report indicates how much money citizens of different countries have deposited in Swiss banks. As part of international transparency and anti-corruption initiatives, such aggregated data are published every year.
