Australian High Commissioner Susan Ryle met Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman on Tuesday. Other senior officials from the Australian High Commission were also present at the meeting.
Representing Bangladesh Bank were Deputy Governor Dr Habibur Rahman, Ikhtiar Uddin Mohammad Mamun, head of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), Executive Director Sarwar Hossain, and other senior officials.
The meeting focused on Bangladesh’s recent macroeconomic developments, ongoing reforms in the banking sector, non-performing loan management, foreign exchange reserves, continued collaboration with international development partners, and various initiatives undertaken in response to the global economic environment.
The two sides also exchanged views on the restructuring of several banks. The Australian side reaffirmed its interest in continuing technical assistance to strengthen Bangladesh’s banking and economic sectors.
Both parties expressed their commitment to further expanding cooperation in economic development, financial sector modernisation, knowledge exchange, and capacity building.
During the meeting, they also highlighted the professional contributions of Bangladesh Bank officials who pursued higher education in Australia under the Australia Awards programme and acknowledged their role in promoting knowledge and experience sharing between the two countries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed their expectation of further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the future.
