Chief Adviser’s press secretary Shafiqul Alam has said that there is no uncertainty regarding the upcoming national election. “The election will be held exactly when the Chief Adviser has indicated,” he told reporters.

He made the statement on Saturday (July 19) while speaking to the media during an international event organized by Comilla University at the Moinamoti Auditorium of Bangladesh Rural Development Academy (BARD) in Cumilla.

Shafiqul Alam assured that a proper electoral environment will be created and equal opportunities will be ensured for all parties. “This time, the election will be better than any previous one,” he said, adding that once the monsoon ends, election enthusiasm will spread across the country.

Speaking on the proportional representation system (PR system) for the national election, he noted that discussions are ongoing between political parties and the Election Commission. “All parties are participating sincerely. In many countries, reaching decisions on these matters takes years,” he explained.

Addressing recent high-profile incidents, he said those involved have already been brought under the law, adding that the law has also been amended to ensure faster trials in cases such as rape.

When asked about the recent violence in Gopalganj, the Press Secretary responded, “The people of this district are not separate from the rest of Bangladesh. The government and law enforcement agencies have handled the situation with expertise.”

The event titled “The Next Wave,” part of the second edition of TEDx Comilla University, also featured a number of guest speakers, including the university’s Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md Haider Ali, astrophotographer Zubuyer Kaolin, Chorki CEO Redoan Rony, author Del H Khan, singer Asif Akbar, and news anchor Farabi Hafiz.
