Although nearly 90 percent of the country’s population uses mobile phones, 41.6 percent still lack access to the internet, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics’s (BBS) latest survey.

The second-quarter results of its ICT Access and Use Survey 2025–26 found approximately 151.9 million individuals in the country use mobile phones, representing 89.4 percent of the total population. Additionally, 65.5 percent of people use their own mobile phones.

Internet usage remains comparatively low: 99.18 million people have access to the internet, accounting for 58.4 percent of the population. Furthermore, only 11.4 percent of people have access to computers.

Around 99 percent of households have, the survey reveals, at least one mobile handset. Among them, 73 per cent of households own a smartphone, and 57.2 percent of these households have internet access.

The survey also reveals that 59 percent of households have televisions, 15.2 percent still use radios, and only 0.7 percent have telephones. Meanwhile, 98.6 percent of households have access to electricity.
