A Cox’s Bazar court has granted a three-day remand for Ataullah Abu Ammar Jununi, the chief of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), in connection with a 2020 murder case inside the Rohingya refugee camp.
On Wednesday afternoon (July 9), Senior Judicial Magistrate Asaf Uddin Md Asif approved the remand in a case involving the killing of four people in the Kutupalong refugee camp in Ukhiya.
Court police inspector Md. Golam Zilani confirmed that Ataullah Jununi is a named accused in the high-profile four-murder case that occurred in 2020 inside the Rohingya camp. The investigating officer from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had sought a seven-day remand, but the court granted three days.
Earlier in the day, Jununi was brought to the court under tight security. After the hearing, he was taken back to Cox’s Bazar Jail.
On the night of March 18 this year, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Jununi along with five others during raids in Siddhirganj of Narayanganj and Noya Bazar area in Mymensingh.
According to court records, on October 6, 2020, a clash between rival groups in the Kutupalong camp in Ukhiya left four people dead. Ataullah is one of the accused named in the case, which is currently under investigation by the CID.
