Ex-CEC ATM Shamsul Huda passes away at 83

ATM Shamsul Huda was appointed Chief Election Commissioner in 2007.

Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda passed away on Saturday morning (July 5) at the age of 83. He died at his residence in Gulshan around 9:00 am (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un).

His brother-in-law, Ashfaque Qaderi, confirmed the news to the media. He said Shamsul Huda’s body is currently at United Hospital, and the funeral will take place once his daughter returns from the United States.

ATM Shamsul Huda joined the Pakistan Civil Service in 1966. After Bangladesh’s independence, he became part of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS).

Over his long career, he served as the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Bagerhat, Secretary of the Ministries of Water Resources and Finance, and Managing Director of Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB). He retired from government service in 2000.

In 2007, he was appointed Chief Election Commissioner. Under his leadership, the 2008 general election was held, which was widely recognized as free, fair, and credible.
