Five more people died from dengue in the past 24 hours across the country, while 172 new patients have been admitted to hospitals with the mosquito-borne disease.
The information was disclosed on Monday in a dengue situation report issued by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among the newly hospitalised dengue patients, 37 were admitted in Barisal Division (outside the city corporation areas), 28 in Chattogram Division (outside the city corporation areas), two in Dhaka Division (outside the city corporation areas), 16 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 17 in Dhaka South City Corporation, two in Mymensingh Division (outside the city corporation areas), eight in Rajshahi Division (outside the city corporation areas), and 14 in Khulna Division (outside the city corporation areas), according to the report.
During the same period, 100 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery. With these latest recoveries, the total number of patients discharged from hospitals this year has reached 5,455.
So far this year, 5,924 people have been infected with dengue. Of them, 62.1 percent are male, and 37.9 percent are female. The disease has claimed 18 lives so far this year.
