Emergency crew rescues four students stranded in Sitakunda Ecopark

The students became stranded while returning from the Suptadhara waterfall

The rescue team, responding to an emergency call to the 999 national hotline, trekked three kilometres through a flooded hill stream in heavy rain to reach the group.

Fire service personnel rescued four university students stranded in Chattogram’s Sitakunda Ecopark on July 10 after sudden heavy rain flooded the hill stream route they were using to return from the Suptadhara waterfall, emergency officials said.

The students — all third-year honours undergraduates at Chattogram’s Southern University — lost their way while returning from the Suptadhara waterfall and became trapped as the hill stream route flooded.

A relative called the national emergency hotline 999 at 6:45 pm, and the Sitakunda fire station dispatched a rescue team.

Firefighters walked roughly three kilometres along the flooded hill stream route in heavy rain, reaching the group at 7:40 pm, and brought them to safety by 8:10 pm.

The 999 call was handled by ASI Shariful Islam and coordinated by fire dispatcher Md Altaf Hossain. Sitakunda Fire Service lead officer Motiray Lal Tripura confirmed the rescue operation.
