Three suspects have been arrested over an attack, vandalism and looting at content creator Salman Muqtadir’s studio in Dhaka’s ECB Chattar area late at night, with police saying a dispute over possession of land belonging to New Gini Properties may lie behind the incident.

Md Mahidul Islam, a joint commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told a briefing on Sunday that two people were arrested at the scene after officers from Cantonment police station brought the situation under control and a third was picked up later in a night raid.

He named the three as Mamun, from Gafargaon, who lives in the Bhasantek slum; Aslam, from Tangail, an auto-rickshaw driver; and Munna, also a Bhasantek resident.

The officer added that the cause of the attack was still under investigation, but that initial questioning suggested a land dispute was a more likely reason.

Police have no information that Muqtadir was asked for extortion, the DMP official said.

Asked whether the capital had become a city of looting and land-grabbing, and about the run of incidents at New Gini Properties, Radda Hospital and Mohammadpur, Mahidul Islam said he had visited the New Gini Properties site with his full team and begun an investigation. Police treat each incident seriously and work quickly to identify those involved, he said.

Legal proceedings are underway and several police teams are still working on the case, he said, adding that he expected all those involved to face the law.
