The names of the unofficially elected candidates in all four parliamentary constituencies of Patuakhali district were announced following the 13th national parliamentary election held on Thursday (February 12). Candidates from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, and the BNP-led alliance secured victories in different constituencies.
In Patuakhali-1, BNP-nominated candidate and the party’s central vice-chairman, former home and commerce minister Air Vice Marshal (retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, was unofficially elected with 150,431 votes under the “paddy sheaf” symbol. His nearest rival, Islami Andolan candidate Md Firoz Alam, secured 57,994 votes with the “hand fan” symbol.
In Patuakhali-2, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Shafiqul Islam Masud was unofficially elected with 99,783 votes under the “scales” symbol. His closest competitor, BNP candidate Md Shahidul Alam Talukder, received 72,195 votes with the “paddy sheaf” symbol.
In Patuakhali-3, BNP alliance candidate Md Nurul Haque — president of Gono Odhikar Parishad and former DUCSU vice-president — was unofficially elected with 73,934 votes under the “truck” symbol. Independent candidate Hasan Mamun secured 47,930 votes with the “horse” symbol.
In Patuakhali-4, BNP candidate ABM Mosharraf Hossain was unofficially elected with 123,335 votes under the “paddy sheaf” symbol. His nearest rival, Islami Andolan candidate Mostafizur Rahman, received 69,776 votes with the “hand fan” symbol.
According to the returning officer’s office, the unofficial results were declared after vote counting concluded in a peaceful environment.
