State Minister for Public Administration Abdul Bari has said the government aims to ensure transparency in all sectors, adding that corruption will not be tolerated in any field, including the canal excavation programme.
He made the remarks on Monday after inaugurating canal excavation and re-excavation work in the Murail Bhabki area of Kalai Upazila in Joypurhat District. The programme marked the launch of excavation and re-excavation activities covering nearly 15.5 kilometres of canals in the district.
The state minister said that all development activities will be carried out with transparency in line with government directives, and no scope will be allowed for any form of irregularity or corruption.
Among those present at the event were Deputy Commissioner Md Al-Mamun Mia, Superintendent of Police Mina Mahmuda, newly appointed district council administrator Masud Rana Pradhan, Executive Engineer of the Bangladesh Water Development Board in Joypurhat, Riyadul Islam, district BNP convener Golzar Hossain, and Kalai Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shamim Ara, along with officials and leaders from different levels.
Under a nationwide programme for the excavation and re-excavation of rivers, canals, and water bodies, four canals with a combined length of 15.31 kilometres are being re-excavated in Joypurhat under the supervision of the Bangladesh Water Development Board. The project has been allocated a budget of BDT 30 million.
After the inauguration, the state minister joined a discussion meeting held at the Kathail Gopinathpur School ground.
Later in the afternoon, he attended a law and order committee meeting at the office of the deputy commissioner in Joypurhat. He also held an exchange meeting with district-level officials involved in development activities in the district.
