Bangladesh’s border force said Indian troops attempted to push nine people — three men, three women and three children — across the border into its territory early on Wednesday before a patrol intervened and prevented them from entering Bangladesh.

The incident occurred around 4 am near border pillar 244/MP in the Adatola area of Sapahar upazila in Naogaon district, the Border Guard Bangladesh’s 16 battalion said in a statement.

A patrol from the Adatola border outpost moved to the spot and prevented the individuals from entering Bangladesh, the BGB said. It accused members of India’s Border Security Force from the Alenpur camp of BSF 29 battalion of attempting to push the group across.

The nine individuals remained at the zero line along the border. Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ariful Islam Masum, commander of the BGB battalion-16, said patrols had been reinforced and that nobody would be allowed to enter the country illegally.
