Biman flight makes emergency landing in Dhaka after rear wheel detaches

The incident forced a half-hour runway closure from 3 pm to 3:30 pm. Biman Bangladesh Airlines said all passengers and crew were safe.

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight made an emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday after a rear wheel came off, closing the runway for about half an hour.

The flight, BG-436, a Dash 8-400, left Cox’s Bazar at 1:35 pm and was due to land in Dhaka at 2:30 pm, but a mechanical fault prevented it from doing so. It circled the capital’s airspace for about 40 minutes before touching down at 3:10 pm.

The runway was shut from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm for the emergency landing and reopened once the aircraft safely landed.

Biman’s public relations department said in a statement that the BG-436 flight landed safely at 3:10 pm after a slight delay caused by unavoidable operational and technical reasons.

All passengers and crew arrived safely and without incident, it said, adding that the airline apologised for the disruption and reaffirmed its commitment to passenger safety and operational standards.
