Stray bullet from Myanmar clash kills teen girl in Teknaf

The incident took place Sunday morning in Lambabil, a border area of Whykong union in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

A teenage girl has died in Bangladesh after being hit by a stray bullet from clashes across the Myanmar border, border guard officials said.

The incident took place Sunday morning in Lambabil, a border area of Whykong union in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. She was struck during heavy firing inside Myanmar at dawn.

Lt Col Mohammad Zahirul Islam, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh’s 64th battalion, confirmed the incident. Her identity was not immediately known. According to the BGB, patrols in the area have been stepped up.

The death follows a similar incident last Thursday night, when a 30-year-old fisherman, Mohammad Alamgir, was shot and injured in the Whykong section of the Naf River.

In response, local residents blocked a road in the Whykong-Lambabil area from this morning, demanding action to resolve the Rohingya crisis. Army, BGB, and civil administration teams are working to restore order.
