The United States is providing $2.4 million in health equipment and supplies to Bangladesh’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to strengthen maternal, newborn and child health services across the country, the US Embassy in Dhaka said on Monday.

Ambassador Brent T Christensen presented maternal and newborn care training models to Dr Md Mizanur Rahman, civil surgeon at Panchagarh District Hospital, embassy spokesperson Poornima Rai said.

The broader contribution includes newborn warmers and breathing equipment, therapeutic food for severely malnourished children, and supplies to keep vaccines effective.

The items are reaching hospitals and health centres nationwide, including hard-to-reach areas, through US-funded partners FHI 360, Jhpiego, JSI and UNICEF.

Rai said the support advances the America First Global Health Strategy, which uses practical partnerships to strengthen health systems and promote American health innovation. The United States remains committed to working with Bangladesh’s government to expand access to quality healthcare nationwide, she added.
