Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Home Adviser, stated that action would be taken against those appointed on political grounds during the Awami League’s rule. He said, “There have been some appointments based on merit, but those who got jobs through political favoritism will face action.”
He made these remarks to reporters on Saturday (October 19) after inspecting the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 1 Battalion headquarters in Rajshahi. The Home Adviser also noted that 187 officers did not join the police force after the student-led mass uprising. “They are no longer police officers; they are goons. They will be arrested and brought to justice,” he added.
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury further added, “Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be brought back from India under the existing agreements, following the international tribunal’s warrant issued against her for crimes against humanity. The government has no information regarding Awami League’s General Secretary Obaidul Quader.” The adviser also mentioned that there will be a reward if investigative journalists can locate Awami League’s General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
BGB Director General General General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, Additional Director General (GS Branch) Brigadier General Sohrab Hossain Bhuiyan, and other senior officials were present during the visit.
