Barrister Rumeen Farhana, BNP’s Assistant Secretary for International Affairs, has called for the restoration of citizens’ voting rights. “The person who receives the people’s vote should form the government, become the Prime Minister, and be elected as an MP,” she said.
She made the remarks on Friday (July 18) at a program in front of Sarail Pilot Girls’ High School in Brahmanbaria, held to mark the anniversary of the July–August mass uprising, mourning, and victory. The event included wearing black badges, a silent march, and a brief rally at the upazila parishad premises.
Rumeen Farhana stated, “We have never hidden our identity or made political deals with the Awami League. Many have saved their own skin by joining Chhatra League and Jubo League. They should not dare to speak ill of Tarique Rahman.”
Commenting on the political situation, she said, “There has been enough delay and excuses. There should be no more stalling.” She expressed hope that a free, fair, and neutral election would be held by February, in which the BNP would emerge victorious and form the next government.
Criticizing the government’s hardline stance, she said, “Sheikh Hasina has failed to suppress the BNP. Hundreds of enforced disappearances, thousands of killings, and millions of cases could not confine us inside our homes.” She added that the BNP has always remained united—and will continue to be.
