Two construction workers died and two more were injured when soil collapsed during an excavation work in Chattogram early Thursday. The workers were installing a WASA sewerage line, fire service officials said.

The accident occurred along Agrabad Access Road, where crews working for China Hydro Company were laying pipelines for the Chattogram Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA). A section of the pit gave way overnight, burying the four labourers.

Two fire service units reached the site and worked alongside local residents for roughly an hour to extract the men. All four were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where doctors pronounced two of them dead on arrival.

Officials named the deceased as Rakib and Tushar. The two survivors remain under medical care.

After the deaths were confirmed, a group of labourers gathered at the hospital’s emergency department and vandalised property, police said. Officers detained six people at the scene.
