Professor ABM Obaidul Islam has been appointed as vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka (DU. Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon confirmed the appointment on Monday.

Professor Obaidul Islam currently serves as vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Open University (BOU) and previously taught physics at DU.

He succeeds Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, who stepped down last month. Professor Khan submitted his resignation to the education minister on February 22, according to the university’s protocol officer.

The resignation had not been formally accepted at the time, with officials saying the process would be completed afterwards.
