Chattogram airport cancels 50 flights amid Middle East crisis

The cancellations, which include four flights on Thursday, follow the closure of airfields in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Doha.

Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport has cancelled 50 international flights since February 28 due to closure of multiple airports across the Middle East, according to airport officials.

The cancellations, which include four flights on Thursday, follow the closure of airfields in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Doha as regional tensions escalate amid conflict between Israel–US and Iran.

Thursday’s cancelled services were two arrival flights from the Middle East operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines and two further arrivals by the UAE-based carrier Air Arabia.

Meanwhile, a SalaamAir flight from Muscat (OV-401) was forced to divert to Dhaka this morning after it was unable to land in Chattogram due to fog. The aircraft later returned to Chattogram at 10:55 am and departed for Muscat as flight OV-402 at 11:55 am.

“Operations are facing various problems due to the Middle East situation,” Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, a public relations officer at the airport, told Bonik Barta. “Flight movements will return to normal once the situation stabilises.”
