The vehicle carrying Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson for Inquilab Mancha who was shot by assailants on December 12, has left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for the mortuary, the platform announced Friday evening.
The decision follows the family’s request to bury Hadi beside the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and to hold his funeral prayer on Manik Mia Avenue on Saturday after Zuhr.
Meanwhile, the CA Press Wing has announced that the funeral prayers of Sharif Osman Hadi will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building.
Earlier, Sharif Osman Hadi’s body arrived at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 5:50 p.m. today.
His body was originally scheduled to be taken to Dhaka University’s central mosque on Friday but will now arrive there tomorrow as part of a procession.
Inquilab Mancha urged students and the public to maintain discipline during gatherings today and tomorrow, warning that no group should infiltrate the protest or provoke violence.
The platform also stated that there will be no opportunity for public viewing of Hadi’s body. Supporters were asked to maintain order and offer prayers from a distance.
Osman Hadi had sustained a severe head injury on December 12 in Puranapaltan during election campaigning when assailants opened fire targeting him. He was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later at Evercare Hospital.
As his condition worsened, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on December 15 for advanced treatment, where he died on Thursday, December 18, while undergoing care.
The chief adviser of the interim government, during a national address yesterday following Hadi’s death, declared Saturday a one-day national mourning.
