India’s border security force, the Border Security Force (BSF), has been accused of attempting to push 34 people into Bangladesh through four border points across three upazilas — Aditmari, Hatibandha, and Patgram — in Lalmonirhat district.

The attempted push-ins took place late last night. With assistance from local residents, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) prevented the alleged intrusions. BGB and BSF personnel are currently positioned face-to-face along the border.

This morning, the individuals were seen sitting with their luggage under the open sky along the zero line of the border. The group includes women and children.

In a press release, the Lalmonirhat-15 BGB Battalion stated that its patrol team detected the presence of 12 individuals near Main Pillars 925 and 927 at the Dighaltari and Durgapur border areas of Aditmari Upazila. The patrol immediately issued warnings through loudspeakers, after which the individuals were seen moving within Indian territory. The BGB has requested a flag meeting with the Indian Raninagar-3 BSF Battalion regarding the incident. But no response has yet been received from the BSF.

BSF personnel allegedly attempted to push 12 people, including women and children, into Bangladesh through the border of Fakirpara Union in Hatibandha Upazila last night. At dawn today, a patrol team from the Barkhata Company of the Teesta-61 BGB Battalion prevented the intrusion. BGB and BSF members remain in a face-to-face position at the border, while the individuals involved are staying at the zero line.

In a separate incident, BSF personnel reportedly attempted to push 10 people, including women and children, into Bangladesh through the Jhalangi (Pocket) border in Srirampur Union of Patgram Upazila. A patrol team from the Teesta-61 BGB Battalion blocked the attempted entry. The individuals are currently remaining under the open sky at the border’s zero line.

Confirming the attempted intrusion of 22 people in Hatibandha and Patgram, Major Tanvir Ahmed, acting director of the Teesta-2 Battalion in Lalmonirhat, said, “We’re currently occupied with the situation. The media will be informed later.”

The Lalmonirhat-15 BGB Battalion also confirmed, through a separate press release, that an attempt had been made to push 12 individuals across the border in the Aditmari sector.
