Six NCP leaders set to enter 13th parliament

Among the party’s top leaders, NCP Convener Nahid Islam won from Dhaka-11. Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain secured victory in Rangpur-4, while Chief Organiser for the southern region, Hasnat Abdullah, was elected from Cumilla-4.

National Citizen Party (NCP), formed in the aftermath of the July mass uprising, has secured its first electoral success by participating in a parliamentary election for the first time. Of the 30 constituencies it contested, six of its leaders have been elected to the 13th national parliament.

Among the party’s top leaders, NCP Convener Nahid Islam won from Dhaka-11. Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain secured victory in Rangpur-4, while Chief Organiser for the southern region, Hasnat Abdullah, was elected from Cumilla-4.

In addition, Joint Coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud won from Noakhali-6, Joint Convener Atiqur Rahman Mujahid was elected from Kurigram-2, and Joint Member Secretary Abdullah Al Amin secured victory in Narayanganj-4.

Voting in this year’s election was held at 42,779 polling centres with 247,482 booths nationwide. A total of 50 political parties contested the polls, with 2,028 candidates in the race.
