BGB deployed for rescue and relief across 11 flood-hit districts

The deployment covers districts in the Chattogram Hill Tracts, southeast and northeast as authorities respond to widespread flooding and landslides.

Bangladesh has deployed its border guard force to 11 districts affected by heavy rainfall, hill run-off, flooding and landslides for rescue, relief and emergency assistance, the force said on Sunday.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel are monitoring conditions around the clock at 90 locations across Bandarban, Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Chattogram, Feni, Sylhet, Habiganj, Sunamganj, Netrokona and Jamalpur.

The force said rescue operations, food distribution and medical aid were being delivered as required.

In Bandarban, BGB teams have so far evacuated more than 600 people from 122 families, including 116 tourists, and moved them to safe shelter. Emergency medical treatment has been provided to 48 people, and food supplies have been distributed among those displaced.

The force is also clearing fallen trees and debris from the Bandarban–Rowangchhari road to restore communications and has taken emergency protective measures to protect a steel bridge in Naikhongchhari rendered hazardous by soil erosion.

The BGB said standing by disaster-affected communities alongside its border protection duties was part of the force’s responsibility and commitment, adding that rescue, relief, medical and other humanitarian assistance would continue until the situation normalised.
