People from all walks of life paid tribute at the newly built ‘36 July’ memorial in Shahbagh, Dhaka, on Tuesday (August 5), marking the July Uprising Day. The monument commemorates those who lost their lives in the 2024 mass movement. Throughout the day, citizens of all ages were seen laying floral wreaths at the site.

Meanwhile, the July Declaration will be presented before the nation at 5 pm today. The declaration will be unveiled at a public gathering at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building. Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus is expected to be present on the occasion.

Cultural performances began in the morning at Manik Mia Avenue, near the National Parliament Building. The area became packed with thousands of attendees by 2 pm. Many were seen holding gas balloons shaped like helicopters and waving the national flag.

As the clock neared 2:25 pm, the crowd waited in anticipation. The moment the time struck, thousands of voices erupted in unison: “Palaichhe re palaichhe, Sheikh Hasina palaichhe” (She’s fled, she’s fled — Sheikh Hasina has fled). The chant echoed repeatedly without pause.
