Professor Dr Mahbub Ullah has been appointed National Professor for a five-year term under the National Professor Policy 2023. The education ministry announced the appointment in a notification issued on Monday afternoon.

Dr Mahbub Ullah will not be regarded as a government employee, according to the notification. He will conduct research in a field of his choice while remaining affiliated with a research organisation or educational institution. He is also required to inform the education ministry and the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh about his research area and submit periodic progress reports.

The notification further states that the relevant research organisation or educational institution must keep the UGC chairman informed of the progress of his work and submit research data and findings to the Secondary and Higher Education Division, the Ministry of Education and the UGC.

The appointment takes effect immediately, the notification also states. During his tenure as National Professor, Dr Mahbub Ullah will receive salary, allowances and other benefits in accordance with Grade 1 of the National Pay Scale 2015. He will not be permitted to hold any other employment while serving in the position.
