Eight more children have died in Bangladesh from measles or symptoms associated with the disease in the past 24 hours, pushing the cumulative toll to 206 over the past month, health authorities said on Thursday.

The Directorate General of Health Services confirmed two of the deaths were directly attributed to measles, while a further six children died after presenting with suspected measles symptoms. Hospitals across the country admitted 811 children with symptoms during the same period, and laboratory tests confirmed 92 new measles cases.

Since March 15, the outbreak has claimed 34 children whose deaths were confirmed as measles-related and an additional 172 who died while exhibiting symptoms consistent with the disease.
