Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expressed hope on Monday that India would speed up the extradition of ousted leader Sheikh Hasina, who was toppled in a student-led mass uprising on August 5, 2024.

Rahman raised the issue during a meeting with Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi at his Cabinet Division office in the Bangladesh Secretariat, according to Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Shadhin.

Shadhin said the prime minister welcomed Trivedi at the start of the meeting, where the envoy shared his experiences of serving in Dhaka over the past two months.

Key bilateral issues were discussed, with Dhaka reiterating its expectation that New Delhi expedite Hasina’s extradition.

Dhaka also repeated its request for India to hand over those involved in the murder of Osman Hadi, Shadhin added.

The prime minister stressed the need to build a suitable climate to advance ties between the two nations.

Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman, Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir and senior officials attended the meeting.
