Two more deaths from dengue

In total, the death toll from the disease is 63 so far this year.

Two people died from dengue in a single day, bringing this year’s total death toll from the disease to 63. During the same period, 723 new patients were admitted to hospitals, taking the total number of dengue patients hospitalised so far this year to 21,550.

This information was released in a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday.

According to the release, the two individuals who died in the past 24 hours were residents of Khulna and Barisal divisions. To date, 19,894 dengue patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

An analysis of division-wise data shows that among the patients admitted in the last 24 hours, the highest number — 320 — are in the Dhaka division. 101 patients were also admitted in Barisal, 83 in Chattogram, 98 in Khulna, 45 in Mymensingh and 63 in Rajshahi.

Month-wise figures indicate that this year’s fatalities include 2 deaths in January, 2 in February, 1 in May, 13 in June, 36 in July and 9 so far in August.

According to DGHS data, dengue infections peaked in July, with 9,206 cases identified during the month, compared to 2,907 cases in the preceding month of June.
